Tiny Hotel
As we all know, it’s the little things in life that make us particularly happy. A wonderful example of this is: the Tiny Hotel in the village of Nistelrode in the Dutch province of North Brabant. The fact that it’s not actually a typical hotel doesn’t detract from this. It’s had this name since a friend of the host couple came to visit and was amazed at the luxurious vibe of the two vacation homes. He obviously hadn’t expected this from self-catering cottages on an organic farm, surrounded by grazing sheep, gnarled apple trees and wide open fields. But when you enter the houses, you actually feel like you’ve landed in a design hotel in the center of a Scandinavian metropolis. In search of a career change, Leonne and Sander have created a new direction for themselves here, living out their passion for interior design to the full. The result is the “Sheep House” in Japandi style and the Scandinavian-inspired “Farm House”, both featuring earthy colors, lots of wood and home textiles made from natural materials. Everything is harmoniously coordinated, creating a relaxed atmosphere. The elegantly furnished little houses are perfect for a short break for two or a weekend getaway with the family. Surrounded by lush greenery and with few distractions, you can find peace and quiet here and forget about everyday life in no time at all—enjoy a good novel on the sofa or visit the sheep, goats, rabbits, ponies, dogs and pig Lou Lou, who all live on the farm. Enjoy a soothing bath in the private whirlpool on the terrace with a view of nature. Or in the evening, take a seat around the campfire baking bread on sticks, accompanied by a good glass of wine. Pretty great, these little things, aren’t they?
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- As the cottages belong to an organic farm, the friendly hosts and their adorable four-legged friends are not far away, but you still have your own private retreat to yourself.
- Hello, coziness! In the “Sheep House”, a record player plus LPs provide a nostalgic sound, and in both houses you can enjoy a wonderful view of the sky through the skylights.
- The handmade coffee mugs from Atelier van Schaijck. Hot drinks taste even better from ceramics made in Amsterdam.
- The little ones will also have a good time here. There are toys, children’s books, animals to cuddle and go-carts that can be used for a spin around the courtyard.
- The natural and subtly scented care products from the Danish label Meraki
- If couples want to spend an evening alone together on vacation, the hosts can arrange for their niece to come and babysit.
- Apple juice the owners make themselves on arrival and fresh eggs guests can take from the hens' nests (always depending on the harvest and the hens’ willingness to lay, of course!)
- On warm days, a dip in the pond to cool off. If it freezes hard enough in winter, you’ll even be able to skate a few laps round it.
- With a welcome letter and a guidebook with tips for restaurants, shopping and excursions in the area, the hosts make you feel at home straight away.
- There is plenty to do here: The nature reserve “De Maashorst”, with its heathlands, hiking and cycling trails, bison and Exmoor ponies, is just a ten-minute drive away. And the cities of Den Bosch, Nijmegen and Eindhoven can be reached in around 30 minutes by car.
GOOD TO KNOW:
- The “Sheep House” has room for two people plus a baby. In the “Farm House”, there’s space for four people plus a baby or toddler up to four years old.
- High chair and baby bed can be organized for an extra charge.
- What we’re looking forward to: Three more cottages are currently being built on the site. Each cottage will have a unique design, lovingly created by Leonne and Sander.
- There’s plenty of space to park your car, and you can pull up right outside the cottage to load and unload.
- The cottages have a fully equipped kitchen with kettle, induction hob, oven, fridge, dishwasher and a Nespresso coffee machine.
- Hot summer days, frosty winter moments? The houses are equipped with underfloor heating; the "Farm House" also has air conditioning so that the temperature is always right.
- If you want to take a little vacation feeling home with you, you’ll find a mini selection of products in the online store. These are made in small batches in the ownners’ studio and include items such as scented candles with linen or sandalwood & vanilla fragrances made from 100% recycled wax.
- The delicatessen in Nistelrode is a great place to stock up on delicious local produce: Cheese from the Spierings farm, sausage made from the Maashorst pig and beer from the brewery in Ooijen.
- When you feel like snuggling up, you’ll find everything you need: Board games, smart TV and free Wi-Fi.
- Dogs are not allowed due to the high-quality interior. However, if you miss having four-legged companions around you, you’ll find plenty of friendly animals on the farm to make up for it during your stay.
- The two owners know that the two cottages are extremely photogenic. That’s why they can also be booked for photo shoots.
