Wanda Apartments
Sometimes the best way to wind down while on holiday is to get moving. The Wanda apartment building on the outskirts of Parcines in South Tyrol could hardly be a better base for exploring the magnificent natural surroundings. After breakfast, which should definitely be celebrated under blue skies (fortunately very common here!) on the roof terrace with olive trees, lavender, and mountain views, you can cycle around the Montiggl lakes, for example. But you’ll always be drawn back to your temporary home, which probably has something to do with the saltwater pool surrounded by greenery, which you can dive into after a strenuous mountain tour. Or maybe the garden sauna, which is a great place to relax, or the Mediterranean communal garden, which is the perfect setting for our favorite South Tyrolean pasttime: sitting in the sun over an aperitif while there is still snow on the surrounding mountain peaks. Or maybe it’s the beautiful interior. Marion and Moritz took over the management in 2020 and can take credit for the very successful remodeling. Light wood, restrained and natural colors, traditional elements reinterpreted – just the right mix of modern comfort and coziness. And perfect for stretching out after a day of action.
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- The understated and simple look of the flats
- The long dining table with the casual combination of different chairs, placed in front of the floor-to-ceiling window – a wonderful setting for dinner with friends
- How the furniture and fittings in some of the flats have been given a completely new look with fresh colors and modern pieces – sustainable and beautiful!
- The fascinating backdrop of apple orchards and mountain panoramas from the spacious balconies, terraces, or sun loungers by the pool
- The host couple Marion and Moritz, who are always available via WhatsApp and have plenty of tips at the ready ¬ from hiking routes to the restaurant with the most delicious spinach dumplings
- The climate! In no other region of South Tyrol are the contrasts as strong as in Merano and its surroundings. In spring, you can ski on the Val Senales Glacier in the morning and cycle through the apple blossoms in the afternoon.
- The location on the edge of the cozy village of Parcines, with its alleyways and old stone walls
GOOD TO KNOW:
- The apartment house has three west-facing and three east-facing flats, all with a balcony or terrace, a kitchenette, living and dining area, and a sleeping area with separate bathroom. There is room for 1 to 2 guests in each.
- The two garden flats ‘Anni’ and ‘Luis’, for two to six guests each, have two separate bedrooms with two bathrooms, a kitchen-living room and a spacious terrace with access to the private garden.
- Tranquillity is a top priority here, but younger guests are also welcome. A cot is available on request. The garden flat ‘Luis’ has a bunk bed.
- Each flat has a fully equipped kitchen with two or four hobs, fridge, coffee machine, toaster, and kettle. A dishwasher is only available in the garden flats.
- There is another double room with bathroom and balcony. It can be booked in combination with one of the flats.
- E-bikes or mountain bikes can be parked in the covered garage.
- Simply set off in the morning with a bag to buy freshly baked goods from the village bakery. And since you're already out and about anyway: Local products such as home-made bacon, wine, honey, and jams are on offer in the farm shops and organic food shops.
- Don’t miss the Parcines waterfall, with a drop of 97 metres. On sunny days between ten and twelve o'clock, the spray glistens in all the colors of the rainbow. It is a 90-minute hike from the village center to the waterfall.
- There are dozens of things to do on your holiday: excursions to the gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle, to the Merano thermal baths, or to the unspoilt side valleys of the Passeier Valley, the Schnalstal, or Ulten Valley.
- Or how about a short hike to Merano to wander through the shops and pick up some South Tyrolean souvenirs? And the cable car up to the Texel Group Nature Park is just around the corner!
- Put on your hiking boots and off you go! Mountain bike trails also start almost on the doorstep.
- All guests receive the South Tyrol Guest Pass free of charge. This allows you to use all public transport throughout South Tyrol and selected cable cars; admission to around 80 museums is also free.
