Winklerhof

What a beautiful spot — the village of Winkel in the northern Black Forest. Romantic orchards invite you to picnic, meadows and forests to hike and bike. In winter, the cross-country skiing slopes are not far away: in summer, the quarry swimming pool and the cool riverbed of the Murg, a tributary of the Rhine are close by. The apartment of host Marc Dusseldorp, on the Winklerhof — a “nook in the village of Winkel”—is an ideal place for those who want to get out of their usual rut. The apartment has a spacious living and dining room with a well-equipped kitchenette. At the cozy cedar table, you can plan your hikes, enjoy a delicious dinner or chat until late, and then later fall into the soft French bed in the bedroom, completely relaxed. The apartment also has a small garden by the old horse stable, a charming and sheltered place where you can watch the industrious bees and bumblebees buzzing around the lovingly planted perennial beds in the summer, while you relax. If you want to go for a walk, you can start right in front of the house or go for a stroll to the nearby Baden-Baden, formerly a fashionable spa town, which still has a special flair today!

WHAT WE LIKE MOST:

  • The stately home of Winklerhof, a former manor house with a long history
  • The modern equipment and friendly charm of the apartment
  • The loving details like leather poufs, bottle garden and the oriental tea service
  • The table and bed are self-made from the wood of a cedar tree, which came from the neighboring village Bad Rotenfels.
  • Legs up and rest or sleeves rolled up and get cooking—in the spacious living and dining area both work well.
  • The fantastic view over paddocks and orchards to the Merkur, the local mountain of Baden-Baden
  • The sweet little garden, a few steps away, separated by a rustic picket fence, planted with a splendid and colorful variety of perennials for sunny afternoons or balmy summer evenings
  • To the meadow orchard belonging to the house—picnics are recommended, apple picking as well!

GOOD TO KNOW:

  • The Winklerhof is also home to a horse stable with over 70 animals.
  • Antonio Alberti offers real Italian cuisine in the restaurant Hofstüble on the farm (with a beer garden!)
  • Two bicycles can be rented for a small fee.
  • Walking and biking trails start right in front of the door; numerous excursions into the surrounding area are possible from here, for example, a castle tour, a trip to the Allerheiligen waterfalls, the tree top walk in Bad Wildbad or going to Baden-Baden (25 minutes), Strasbourg (about 1 hour) or to the upper Murg valley.
  • The cherry blossom in early summer is a real feast for the eyes.
  • The numerous thermal baths in the area are worth a visit, such as the Roman-Irish Friedrichsbad or the Caracella-Therme in Baden-Baden—the thermal bath Rotherma is only five minutes away by car in Bad Rotenfels.
