Winterfeld Guest House

Fancy a refreshing walk in the forest? Pedal boating on the fabulously idyllic Arbersee? Whether by mountain bike or on foot, the countryside around Bodenmais in the Bavarian Forest has its particular charm for everyone. Adventurers, nature lovers, explorers and sports enthusiasts will quickly lose their hearts to this region. Just like Daniel and Stefan. After a few exciting years in Berlin, they felt the need for something new. They wanted to get out of the capital, into the countryside, open their own little hotel. Their search for the perfect place took them to many of Germany’s best-loved holiday destinations, including the Mecklenburg Lake District and the foothills of the Alps. Eventually, they found what they were looking for in the idyllic village of Bodenmais. A guesthouse for sale, with nature right on the doorstep—forests, mountain streams, waterfalls and lakes. With plenty of energy and enthusiasm, they cleared out, renovated and modernised the property, giving it a stylish new look. The result is Boutique Hotel Winterfeld. The relaxed, urban design—the years in the capital send their regards—clearly sets itself apart from other guesthouses in the region. Individual, modern, stylish. Elegant black, white and gray dominate, with colorful details such as cushions or vases, and small flower arrangements to make it particularly homey. Traditional elements in the house also get a cheeky place of honor. Here and there you’ll find paintings of the region in a modern arrangement as a small salute to the past. It’s not just the hosts’ attention to detail though that make Winterfeld Guesthouse so wonderful, it’s also the fact that they are hosts with heart and soul. It’s clear that the guests' happiness is their ultimate goal. Their motto: "Sleep like a baby, breakfast with friends, feel at home."

WHAT WE LIKE MOST:

  • The elegant-urban style with clear, simple colors and furnishings
  • A large, open breakfast lounge with floor-to-ceiling windows—plus an honesty bar for afternoon treats
  • Scandi style in the lounge is skilfully offset by vintage nature paintings, adding a regional touch.
  • Good morning, sunshine! Floor-to-ceiling windows and a private balcony make every room bright and airy.
  • Inside the rooms, glazed pine with its distinctive grain contrasts beautifully with subtly coloured walls and sleek black details.
  • Designer lamps add a warm, atmospheric glow to the space.
  • Each of the ten rooms features a different work by local photographic artist Evi Lemberger—delicate, intricate images of plants from the region
  • Those who have had enough of the outdoors can relax at home in the sauna, outdoor Jacuzzi or on the sun terrace.
  • By the fire pit, guests can chat and listen to the sounds of the garden.
  • Last but certainly not least: the warmth and hospitality of the two hosts.

GOOD TO KNOW:

  • The 10 double rooms come in four different categories, from compact to more spacious options. All feature a minibar, TV and in-room safe.
  • From classic room to junior suite, all rooms have comfortable king-size beds.
  • The house is exclusively for adults.
  • Bikes and ski equipment can be stored in a separate storage room, which also has a charging station for e-bikes.
  • Open around the clock, the Honesty Bar in the lounge is there whenever you fancy a drink or a little something.
  • For active guests, the hosts are always happy to share their favourite tips—whether for hiking, mountain biking or canoeing.
  • Winter is a great time to visit at Winterfeld: 114 km of cross-country ski trails await, while gondolas and chairlifts take skiers and snowboarders up the Großer Arber for downhill runs.
  • There’s plenty to explore nearby, from the treetop walk and Bavarian Forest National Park to the region’s numerous glassworks, the idyllic Kleiner and Großer Arber lakes and several waterfalls.
  • The nearest larger cities Regensburg or Passau are both about an hour's drive away.
