BnB, vacation home, hotel, Germany, Rhineland-Palatinate

Herrenhaus Barthélemy

A country hotel like in Provence, but in a village on the southern wine route in the Palatinate—the climate is so mild and Mediterranean that it not only produces sun-drenched wine, but also lemons, figs and almonds. With the Herrenhaus Barthélemy, the original 18th-century summer residence of its namesake, host couple Rosemarie and Clemens have fulfilled a long-cherished dream—their aim: Not big, not standard, but private and stylish. Just like the maison d’hôtes they had the pleasure of getting to know on their numerous travels in France. Today, the charming property is a true gem with French flair, an historic garden landscape and a delicate scent of lavender in the air. Four spacious rooms and three vacation apartments are available to the lucky guests, divided between the manor house and the coach house, the building formerly used for carriage and horses. The furnishings focus on naturalness and pay respect to the historic character of the estate. New things blend harmoniously and discreetly with the old. Encountering wooden beams on the ceiling, your gaze wanders around the room to discover modern pieces and gems from bygone times, while solid oak floors or natural stone are felt underfoot. Time to step outside—the air is glorious. The princely baroque garden beckons with its winding paths and many secluded spots. Later, you can meet in the courtyard for a chilled rosé and freshly baked cake. Merci, Rosemarie and Clemens—so this is what it feels like, the German-French way of enjoying life.

WHAT WE LIKE MOST:

  • The host couple has found their life’s happiness with the summer residence of yesteryear, you can feel it. Their passion and commitment for this place peeks out from every nook and cranny.
  • The country hotel is located in the wine village Gleisweiler, surrounded by a vineyard landscape, castles and palaces—a pure idyll.
  • Sleeping Beauty meets the French way of life—the manor house, steeped in history, looks like it’s stepped out of a fairy tale book. The beautiful backdrop and the pleasure of enjoying it together make for a special vacation experience.
  • The atmosphere of the rooms is bright, warm and friendly; the furnishings are a mélange of modern and restored furniture. Featuring a lot of wood and select antiques, everything is positioned with finesse; the bathrooms are separate and modern.
  • The mansion is listed and houses a lot of history, which can be seen, for example, in the stucco ceiling, the fresco painting in the garden house and the wooden ornaments. The manor has been restored with care and attention to detail.
  • Enjoyment is a top priority here—from breakfast with fresh and fine foods to the selected wines and homemade treats for enjoying between meals.
  • So many favorite places all in one—breakfast in the courtyard in the sunshine, daydreaming on a bench in the baroque garden, sitting under the tulip magnolia, descending into the mystical grove and switching off...

GOOD TO KNOW:

  • Breakfast (not included in the price) is served in the salon and in the dining room at the long table. Of course, if the sun is shining, you can also find a perfect spot outside. The self-catering guests of the vacation apartments can order a breakfast basket with bread rolls.
  • There’s a sauna in the coach house.
  • The “summer kitchen” has all kinds of drinks and delicacies on offer. From coffee, espresso, tea and wines to homemade cakes and Palatinate homemade sausage—just help yourself.
  • Recreation on site, hiking, a cultural program, excursions into nature and the surrounding area—it’s all possible here; if you want to spoil yourself on the way, just pre-order a packed lunch from Rosemarie.
  • Minimum stay for the rooms is 4 nights, for the vacation apartments 7 nights. A shorter stay is possible depending on availability with an extra charge per night.
  • Special note—rooms and vacation apartments aren’t available for group bookings and celebrations. The host couple holds true to being individual.
  • Parking is available on site; if it gets too crowded, you can use the parking lot in the village, 100 meters away.
