Villa Arnica

Oh, South Tyrol—with your unbeatable blend of everything we love: Elegant villas in pretty towns, the evocative charm of the Belle Epoque, Italian dolce vita with delicious food, an abundance of joie de vivre and warm-heartedness, lush gardens in exploding colors and, enthroned above it all, the mountain peaks that invite you to scramble up in the summer and ski down in the winter. In the charming wine village of Lana, not far from Merano, lies Villa Arnica. An imposing yet friendly building dating back to 1925, it’s a warm yellow color with green shutters, embellished with loggias, balconies and bay windows. It’s surrounded by so much growing, blossoming, flourishing greenery. Birds chirp, bees buzz, fireflies glow in the twilight—enough to make anyone almost giddy with so much Mediterranean beauty! Inside the villa, wonderfully old-fashioned elegance blends with contemporary luxury and design pieces from different eras, especially the 50s and 60s shimmering with glamour from every angle. Every day, (analog) pleasures are extensively celebrated. It’s easy to imagine you’re in another time, far away from the crazy, racing digital world. The day is filled with hours in and around the pool and in the garden, biking, hiking, napping, reading, with the occasional squint at the sun. In the afternoon, people meet for tea in the salotto while the record player spins and fills the room with music. Outside, of course, the mountain world beckons with all its natural wonders, while Merano and Bolzano appeal with their architecture, art and concerts. A place for dreamers and beautiful spirits.

WHAT WE LIKE MOST:

  • Celebrating the little things and beautiful moments like listening to music on the record player, enjoying wonderful food, nature, a good read, interesting conversations—you feel more like a guest at a friend’s house than at a hotel.
  • The rooms with their understated design featuring individually selected pieces of furniture from different eras—from flea market finds to design classics
  • The whole house is full of beautiful details: The elegant herringbone parquet, polished terrazzo floors, floral wallpaper patterns—even the bathroom is adorned with a cross-vaulted ceiling.
  • The partially open bathrooms with free-standing bathtub in the rooms
  • The rooms all have different and interesting layouts due to the many nooks, bay windows and loggias.
  • The beautiful Mediterranean garden with palm trees, flowers in the brightest of colors and its intense green—reminiscent of a botanical garden
  • The pool area with striped umbrellas, pool house and rattan seating, in the style of the 60s. The tiles in the pool are original and refurbished, dating back to 1965.
  • The numerous balconies and terraces, the garden with its seating furniture; everywhere there are places to just sit and look at the stunning nature: Gardens and parks, vineyards, hills and mountains.
  • The "garden-to-table" concept: what is grown in the garden is processed into jams, syrups, spreads and cakes and there is even an Arnica field with all kinds of crunchy and juicy things that go straight onto the plate.
  • The great location—surrounded by beautiful nature and yet only a stone’s throw away from the center of Lana

GOOD TO KNOW:

  • Depending on the season, breakfast—with many regional ingredients—is served in the salotto in the villa or in the pool house in the garden.
  • There is a communal lounge and bar area.
  • Villa Arnica can also be booked as a whole (4 rooms and 6 suites).
  • You can stroll or cycle to the center of Lana with its small and lovely stores, a market and places of interest.
  • It’s a prime starting point for numerous activities, including hiking, mountaineering and skiing; especially recommended is the small, natural hiking and winter sports paradise Vigiljoch—the local mountain of Lana at an altitude of 1700 meters. Nostalgically beautiful!
  • Merano and Bolzano are not far and offer beautiful architecture, small stores, bars and restaurants and plenty of culture.
  • Guests can borrow bicycles free of charge.
  • The hotel is an “adults only” hotel (from 14 years).
  • In the library, there’s an excellent selection of books and magazines.
  • Susanne Kaufmann care products are available in the rooms.
  • Guests are welcome to use the spa facilities at the neighbouring Hotel Schwarzschmied (which is also family-owned). Here you will find pools and saunas, massages and treatments, and 2-3 yoga classes and guided hikes are offered daily. Courses are also held from time to time in the magnificent glass house at Villa Arnica.
  • Arrival by train is possible, with organized pick-up from the station. The nearest airports are Innsbruck (1.5 hours), Verona (1.5 hours), and Bolzano (25 minutes).
  • If you like Villa Arnica, you should also visit one of the Dissertori family's other accommodations: Parkhotel Mondschein, Hotel Schwarzschmied or 1477 Reichhalter
