Studio Poly / Wood Cube Kottgeisering

When you walk through the garden, where white laundry flutters quietly in the breeze on the clothesline, past the beds of beets and radishes, pick a few plums, and then lie down in the hammock, you just know: this is the place to be! But the idyllic garden is by no means all there is to this Upper Bavarian idyll in Kottgeisering in the municipality of Füstenfeldbruck. Particularly impressive is the whitewashed, listed farmhouse dating from 1885, one of the three buildings on the property. Architects Yvonne Toepfer and Peter Fretschner and their three children live in the farmhouse itself, and they have set up their office in the former stable. And next door is the barn. When you open the large wooden doors... cree-ee-ak... you find – surprise! – a “house within a house”, just like a Russian matryoshka doll. A 60m², two-floor vacation apartment in a modern wooden cube offers space for up to four people. Modern and simply furnished, but with everything a guest seeking peace and quiet could desire – planned and implemented by the hosts themselves, who initially lived in the cube while renovating the house next door. Hats off! In short: modern architecture on an old farm with a large garden, stylishly furnished and equipped, the Ammersee lake is not far away, and if you long for the big city, Munich is within easy reach. The perfect place for a loooong summer!

What we like:

• The idea of building a modern living cube into the historic farmhouse - only architects can come up with that (fortunately!)
• The clear geometric contours in the house
• The light wood radiates security and yet spaciousness.
• The spacious 2-storey living room opens to the garden on the first floor.
• The gallery is a retreat area - here there is a library, a reading corner and a comfortable couch, which also functions as a sofa bed.
• The bunk, also lined with wood, is the smallest box in the matryoshka structure - and uuuunheimlich cozy.
• The private terrace belonging to the apartment
• How to like it: the hosts, who live in the main house, are always there for their guests and yet stay in the background (how do they do that??).
• A swimming spot on the Amper river is right outside the front door. 

GOOD TO KNOW:

• Families are very welcome (children up to 12 years stay free of charge), and there is also plenty of kids gear available: travel cot, high chair, toys – everything can be provided on request. 
• The host family’s – ahem, sorry, the host family’s children’s – sandbox, swing, table football, and dartboard can of course also be used.
• Schlappi the bunny lights up the eyes of the little ones (and some of the grown-ups too). 
• Suitable for singles, couples or families: the bedroom and the anteroom, where the sofa bed is located, are not separated by doors.
• Comfortable hotel style: bed linen and towels can be safely left at home - this is provided
• For breakfast there is an excellent French bakery on site – plus the hosts' homemade jam made with ingredients from their own garden, yummy! 
• Just around the corner there is also a really great farm shop where you can stock up on eggs, vegetables, meat, sausage, cheese, ice cream (and much more).
• Two bicycles, a Canadian canoe for three to four people, and a SUP are available.
• The Ammersee and Wörthsee lakes are about a 10-minute drive or 30-minute bike ride away.
• Munich is half an hour away by public transport or car (34 km).
