Dietrichhof
Szilvia and Reinhard Rauter have fulfilled a dream in the heart of South Tyrol. In 2010, they took over Reinhard’s parents’ farm and have been managing it ecologically ever since. It’s a farm straight out of a book: Dairy cows and young cattle stand in the barn, chickens and ducks strut (or waddle) around freely. Cats roam the farmyard and, of course, there’s also a farm dog—Leo watches over everything! While Reinhard as a farmer keeps the farm running, Szilvia mainly takes care of the guests, because the farm also includes the barn—the “Stadel” houses four pavilions that they built using completely traditional and ecological building materials. The four accommodation units “Fire, Earth, Water, Air” are like well-being capsules, an arch envelops the living and sleeping spaces up to the large window front. Since Szilvia also works with alternative healing methods, she has a knack for the right energy; peace and mindfulness are definitely close to both of their hearts—you can tell. They describe Dietrichhof as a “special place”—and we can honestly say that they’re right!
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- The living capsules are made of straw, wood and clay—a super ecological construction! They make you feel comfortable and secure, like being in a cocoon.
- The apartments are pared back to the essentials, and yet still have all the amenities that you would want as a guest.
- The natural and wisely chosen materials, such as the stone sink, the straw “paintings”, the pine kitchen fronts
- The 30 to 37-square-meter pavilions are suitable for two people as well as for a family; they can accommodate two to four people.
- In front of the large window at the end of the living room, each pavilion has its own terrace with an impressive view over the valley and the gently rolling mountains.
- ankommen, abschalten, entspannen: die finnische Saunahütte mit Infrarotkabine, Zirbensauna und gemütlichem Ruheraum bietet fantastische Bergblicke
- Being woken up by the rooster and watching the cat roaming around
- The breakfast room is also a lounge, and it’s great to browse in the small library (books in German, Italian and Hungarian).
- From here you can go for a walk in the woods and breathe in the wonderful mountain air.
- man kann auch am Hofleben teilnehmen: wer mag, bekommt eine Führung oder darf auch mal beim Melken und bei einer Fütterung dabei sein
Good to know:
- alle Pavillons haben ein Doppelbett, einen Ess- und Wohnbereich mit Schlafsofa und ein Bett auf der Galerie /Pavillon Erde und Luft/ ein Bad mit Dusche und eine Kochnische
- Children are welcome, there’s a baby bed with bedding, a children’s high chair, children’s cutlery and crockery and a baby monitor on request; a playground also awaits little guests.
- People with special needs are very welcome here, and the apartments are barrier-free.
- The small farm store offers homemade products according to the season; there are fresh herbs from the farm garden, and fruits and vegetables from the farm.
- You can have a delicious breakfast in the common room on the terrace or, if you prefer, you can opt for a breakfast basket and have breakfast on your own balcony—either way, there’s a great view over the valley.
- The farm also offers a sunbathing lawn with deckchairs and parasols, a communal kitchen (on request) and a barbecue area.
- Hiking maps and walking sticks can be borrowed; in winter, sledges are also available.
- The hosts Szilvia and Reinhard are always available for their guests and are happy to provide information and tips.
- Dietrichhof is situated at 1,200 meters up a sunny hill in the Eisacktaler low mountain range in the heart of South Tyrol.
- The village center of Feldthurns can be reached in 10 minutes by car, where you can visit Velthurns Castle, the former summer residence of the Prince Bishops of Brixen.
- The landmark of the village is the 3,336 chestnut trees; especially in autumn an experience not to be missed—the Keschtnweg leads across the chestnut groves.
- Arrival is also possible by train—there’s a pick-up service from the nearest train station or bus stop.
- The minimum stay is 3 days
