ARX Guesthouse

The name says it all: small and exclusive on the Arx, the mountain peak, surrounded by a magnificent mountain panorama. In winter, it's straight to the slopes, in summer, hiking in the mountains: marvel at gushing waterfalls, swim in clear mountain lakes, walk through green valleys. The name also reflects the hotel’s high aspirations – the Veith family are passionate hosts, they love good food and good wines, and the little comforts with which they can please guests. They like to try new things, pay attention to the details and, at the same time, remain wonderfully relaxed. The Veith family has continually improved the small guesthouse and pizzeria in Schladming, Styria, since the 1990s. Mama Helga and her husband Wolfgang took over the house in 1988, and her son Manuel, formerly a professional snowboarder, and his wife Anna, an Olympic and world champion skier, eventually came on board. Together they have made the small ARX boutique hotel in the midst of the fascinating mountain landscape into an absolute feel-good place. Modern and simple furnishings, clean lines, muted colors, pretty illustrations in the rooms and the restaurant give the house personality and warmth. It’s the perfect place to return to after a blissful day in the mountain air.

WHAT WE LIKE MOST:

  • No matter where you look, you’ll see the impressive mountain panorama ¬ the view is fan-tas-tic!!! Especially from the panorama suite, it’s like a painting....
  • The simple and elegant interior design and the building’s clean architecture
  • The location: the outdoor experience is more than literal – it starts as soon as you step out of the door, both in summer or in winter.
  • Good food is very important to the hosts: the cuisine is traditional, seasonal, and experimental –only high-quality and regional, mostly organic, products are used; the varied surprise menu in the evening is always a treat.
  • The large breakfast selection will cheer up even the worst morning grouch.
  • The wine bistro offers well-selected natural wines and small slow-food snacks, accompanied by cozy music – at the bar you’ll find fine brandies from local producers, as well as a fine craft beer and gin selection.

GOOD TO KNOW:

  • The house has 18 rooms in four categories; there's also a family suite with 4 beds and a penthouse suite with its own sauna and dreamy views.
  • If anyone can give good insider tips, it's the Veith family: Manuel was a professional snowboarder, his wife Anna is a ski racer (more precisely: Super-G Olympic champion and three-time world champion), Helga knows every hiking trail in the area, and Wolfgang is a golf expert.
  • ein Besuch im Wellnessbereich – mit finnischer und Biosauna, Gartensauna und Kneippbecken – lohnt sich!
  • In the summer months the Schladming-Dachstein Sommercard is available for free.
  • There is a sports store and ski rental directly in the hotel; guests of course get a discount on rental, so lugging along all of the ski equipment isn’t necessary.
  • Regular specials for sports, golf, hiking, or dining
  • For winter sports enthusiasts: Schladming-Rohrmoos offers a wide range of lifts and a full 760 kilometers of slopes; ski lift access is just a stone's throw away.
  • For summer visitors: biking and hiking tours start right outside the door; you can explore forests, meadows, mountain lakes and waterfalls (Schladming-Dachstein is also called the Valley of a Thousand Springs and has 300 mountain lakes, 1,000 springs and 100 waterfalls!).
  • Leisure activities in the region are many and varied: the adventure park Naturpark Sölktäler, the via ferrata on the Dachstein, or paragliding and rafting lessons; downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, fatbike riding, tobogganing, winter hiking, curling, snowshoeing; horse-drawn sleigh rides, sled dog camp, tandem paragliding, night tobogganing on the Hochwurzen, the Dachstein Skywalk, the suspension bridge …
