Agger Farmhouse and Hayloft

Relaxing by the lake is balm for the soul and body in equal measure. The sun sparkles magically on the water as it reflects the passing clouds. All is silent except for the wind rustling in the grass. Perfect conditions to let your thoughts run free. And it’s no accident – Danish architect Søren Sarup always takes the natural surroundings, light, and weather into consideration when he creates his houses. He is known for his open floor plans, and the Agger Farmhouse is a prime example. An open, relaxed mind is where unique experiences start, he believes, and unique experiences abound in this special accommodation in Agger, Denmark. The listed farmhouse with its thatched roof was built in 1802 and was last renovated in 2020. It actually consists of two buildings: the 240m² Main House and the somewhat smaller (but still 102m²) Hayloft. They can be booked individually or together. The Hayloft, the former barn, was completely gutted in 2021 and transformed into a light-filled loft. The furnishings are exclusive: restrained Danish design in natural colors meets first-class comfort. Characterized by exquisite minimalism, the striking vintage furniture, contemporary art and well-chosen accessories transform the apartments into a sophisticated, exceptional retreat for nature lovers. Just behind the house, on the other side of that wonderful lake, is the Thy National Park, Denmark's largest wilderness. And that's just the beginning of all that awaits... every guest is welcome to discover it all!

WHAT WE LIKE MOST:

  • Sitting in the covered beach chair in front of the house with a book about art, architecture or design from the in-house library and reading in peace - wonderful! Or maybe a Pippi Longstocking story – the chairs are big enough for two!
  • The hosts Katrein and Gregor have chosen everything with care and put a lot of emphasis on sustainable and ecological brands: the water-based wall paints come from Little Green, the organic bedding from Hess-Natur, the eco-soaps and shower gels are from "Stop the water while using me" and the plaids made from recycled wool come from The Tartan Company.
  • The bright, light-flooded Main House is furnished with new oak flooring and Danish designer furniture by Bolia, the walls are decorated with selected works by Peter Büchler or Ai Weiwei – it’s almost like a museum for contemporary art and modern design.
  • Four bedrooms and three bathrooms offer enough space for families and friendly couples, the dining table seats twelve people, the fireplace and a huge sofa invite you to let go.
  • The Hayloft, with an impressive ceiling height of 5m and fully glazed gable end provides an incredible view of the lake and the national park beyond; the heart of the former barn is the Magic Box: kitchen, dining area and dressing room on the bottom, gallery bedroom on top.
  • There are oversized comforters!

GOOD TO KNOW:

  • The beach is only 300 m away – here the vastness of the Danish North Sea coast awaits, where you can experience unforgettable sunsets and much more.
  • Directly behind the dike is a large freshwater lake, Flade Sø, which is ideal for windsurfing and stand-up paddling or fishing.
  • The Danish west coast is not called "Cold Hawaii" for nothing: windsurfers and kite surfers find perfect surfing conditions here.
  • Unforgettable hikes and bike tours through the national park, or a walk to the lighthouse Lodbjerg Fyr with its great café.
  • Agger is located 440 km north of Hamburg and can be reached in a little more than 4 hours by car, the airport in Aarhus is 220 km away (driving time 2 h) and the airport in Billund (Legoland) is 160 km away (driving time 1.5 h) - so the Farmhouse is much closer than you think ...
  • Minimum stay is three nights.
  • The hosts also have beautiful apartments in the Remise Possenhofen near Munich. Remise Possenhofen near Munich
