Am Wildbachberg

Sepp, Franzl, and Rosa nestle together on a green slope halfway between Graz and Slovenia. The three are not children or dogs or sheep—they are three small, luxurious and cozy vacation homes with the “surname” Wildbachberg, and are intended for couples who want to relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of nature. “Slowing down, far away from the hustle” is the philosophy of hosts Johanna and Günter Kraine. They fell head over heels in love with the old property, which the previous owner had happily lived in for 100 years, and they renovated it with great dedication and effort. The three pretty houses are grouped around a small, elegant infinity pool. Each has its own Swiss stone pine sauna with panoramic glazing, secluded from other guests, but with captivating views of the vast Schilcherland countryside. The excellently equipped hideaways exude the charm of traditional Styrian farmhouses and at the same time get top marks for the modern details: Homemade glass art, oak parquet flooring, underfloor heating, panoramic gas stoves, wide double beds, fully equipped kitchens and chic bathrooms. Rosa’s name harks back to the sweet pale pink trottered animals she used to house, Sepp’s first incarnation was as a “Troadkostn”, where grain was stored. Franzl has two floors: Upstairs there’s a bedroom with a free-standing bathtub and a children’s room, downstairs is the kitchen and dining area, fireplace and sofa. Rosa, Franzl and Sepp can be booked individually or together as an exclusive vacation retreat. After your morning yoga session, why not lie in a deckchair and admire the vast natural landscape of Western Styria? Jump into the pool for a refreshing dip? Or perhaps you’d prefer to set off on a hike and discover the hilly wine region on foot or by bike? Relaxation means something different for everyone—but everyone is sure to feel completely at ease here!

WHAT WE LIKE MOST:

  • Rosa, Franzl, and Sepp have a very special charm and are very stylishly and comfortably furnished.
  • The three houses form a beautiful ensemble that has been extensively renovated using traditional craftsmanship and natural materials—historic tiles on the roof, lime plaster and walls made of Stainzer stone.
  • The beautiful location surrounded by rolling hills
  • After trying one of the private panoramic saunas, other saunas will never be the same. Rosa, Franzl and Sepp each have their own very luxurious sauna with panoramic glazing—simply WOW!
  • Oak floors, high-quality furnishings and lots of light ensure relaxation and tranquillity.
  • Johanna has decorated the chalet cottages with homemade glass art with light fittings, these can also be purchased.
  • The small infinity pool is very chic and glows a beautiful deep blue at night.
  • Each house has a terrace in front of it, Franzl even has an additional one on the roof.
  • Rosa and Franzl have a cozy gas fireplace and from little Sepp you have an undisturbed view over the vast countryside. They also have their own small, fenced-in garden!
  • A spacious, fan-shaped staircase leads in a semi-circle to the 300-year-old wine cellar with a stock of artisan wine.

GOOD TO KNOW:

  • In the morning, a deliciously prepared breakfast box is brought to the door, filled with warm homemade baking, homemade jams, fruit and vegetables, cold cuts and cheese from organic farmers and vegan spreads. The fresh herbs come straight from the garden.
  • The double beds are 180 centimeters wide and very comfortable with specially selected organic textiles.
  • All of the houses are equipped with air conditioning for hot days and underfloor heating for the cooler ones.
  • You should pack hiking boots; bicycles and Nordic walking poles can be rented.
  • In addition to the pool, you can also use the barbecue area and the cellar terrace.
  • There is both a lockable bicycle garage and a charging station for electric cars.
  • Dogs are welcome in Haus Franzl and Sepp. Sepp is also fenced in and is therefore particularly suitable for a vacation with a dog.
  • Worth a visit are the Wolfgangi Church in Hollenegg, Stainz Castle with its hunting museum and Deutschlandsberg Castle.
  • Travel by car or by Wieserbahn (GKB), which has been incorporated into the Styrian high-speed rail network as the S6 and S61 and is set to run electrically from 2025.
