Altes Backhaus Haselberg
Julia Lichtenberg and Stefan Jülke are the happy parents of two children—and then there’s Anton, Gerda, Hans, Lotta and Ronja. These are the apartments in the property they opened in Brandenburg in 2018. These too have been lovingly “raised”. Julia and Stefan are from Brandenburg themselves, then moved to Berlin and traveled a lot. When they became parents, they wanted to move back to the countryside and offer their children—and other families—a relaxed but exciting life in amongst nature. They searched for a long time until they found the fieldstone house that is typical for this area. They have carefully completed an extensive renovation, turning over every stone twice. They happily reused or repurposed what was worth preserving: A tiled stove becoming a closet, old windows becoming cupboards or picture frames. The former bakehouse gradually developed into a wonderful retreat in the countryside, especially suited to the needs of young parents and also couples who need a break from city life in this beautiful cottage and its surroundings. The hosts have paid particular attention to the interior design and furnishings. All of the apartments are not only super family-friendly, but each has its own charm and personality. Just like siblings—all unique!
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- The interior style—a mix of designer, vintage chic and a cozy family home; a blend of old and new, playful and uncluttered
- The beautiful flea market finds and attic treasures: Furniture from the 40s, 50s and 60s—like a little trip back in time
- The wonderful garden with fruit trees, a huge chestnut tree, a play area for the little ones (with a water pump!) and a relaxation area for the parents or other guests
- After the renovation the rooms look cozy but also open and airy.
- Cheerful colors like green doors, pink curtains, a yellow tiled stove and whimsical details like birch tree trunks as stair railings, a “greened” gallery level with mailboxes and original pictures
- The tiny house concept in “Ronja” with a special sleeping/gallery level
- The terraces, especially the huge roof terrace in “Lotta” and the small terrace next to the beautiful Swedish-style entrance area
- The charms of the old country house—the old windows, the exposed brick walls and in places the exposed ceilings
- The fireplaces and tiled stoves make for a cozy stay even in colder months.
- The kitchens are well equipped and invite you to cook or bake together.
- The sauna in the vaulted cellar
- The absolute peace and quiet—one of the best things about it!
GOOD TO KNOW:
- There are family rooms and children of all ages are welcome; children up to and including 17 years of age do not pay anything for staying in one of the available beds, only extra beds are subject to extra charges.
- All apartments are child-friendly (there are baby beds and fall-out protection for single beds, high chairs, stools in the bathroom, toys and books, handcarts, vehicles and helmets, carving knives—you really don’t need to bring much with you).
- Bicycles of different sizes can be borrowed free of charge.
- The Alten Backhaus is located about one hour by car from Berlin.
- There’s a beautiful forest behind the house, which can be explored on foot or in a handcart which you can of course rent here!
- There’s a bathing lake about 2.5 kilometers away.
- Worthwhile excursions include the ship lift at Niederfinow, the zoo in Eberswalde, and the trolley train at Tiefensee is also good fun.
