Casa Amendoeira
Sitting on the terrace of the whitewashed farmhouse with its blue shutters, a glass of wine in your hand, gazing out over the large garden and basking in the glow of the warm, golden sunset – it doesn’t get any better than this. Till, Birthe, and Pepe, your hosts at Casa Amendoeira, knew it as soon as they discovered the house near Loulé. As a child, Till often spent his summer vacations in Portugal with his aunt, who lived there for a long time, and his wife Birthe and son Pepe quickly caught his Algarve bug. Since purchasing the house in 2022, they have brought it back to life with a fresh design and a modified floor plan. In doing so, they placed particular emphasis on preserving as many of the building’s original character as possible. The original stove and Santa Catarina floor tiles were lovingly restored. New additions include design classics and wooden furniture with patina. Lots of white and light natural tones convey a sense of lightness, while home textiles, raffia and copper lamps, and subtle decorations make it cozy. The surroundings are just as inviting: in the old, 3,900-square-meter garden with olive, pomegranate, fig, and almond trees (which give the house its name), you can relax in a hanging chair or deck lounger. Located in the hinterland, Casa Amendoeira offers plenty of peace and relaxation with its three cozy bedrooms. But the region's unbeatably beautiful natural beaches are less than 30 minutes away –so everything that an Algarve vacation has to offer comes together here: authentic village life, beach vibes, and a retreat with probably the most beautiful sunsets far and wide.
WHAT WE LIKE MOST:
- The mix of rustic and contemporary. The farmhouse’s ceiling, made of wooden beams and reeds, has been painted white, and the old wooden chest has been combined with a modern sofa and the clean, round shapes of the Roly Poly lounge chair by Driade.
- The pleasant indoor mood created by the high ceilings, thick walls, and classic tiles.
- The copper-colored fittings in the bathrooms and kitchen are real eye-catchers.
- How carefully the kitchen utensils have been selected: the cast-iron teapot, the cutlery in a matte gold tone, and the pretty ceramics.
- The cozy bedrooms with a view of the countryside – here you can sleep without street noise and wake up to the sounds of nature.
- The idea of offering a small selection of local wines in the dining area.
- The sheltered terrace with its old cobblestones and medlar tree, which provides pleasant shade. An outdoor sofa, lounge chairs, a large dining table, sun loungers, and deck chairs turn the garden into a living room.
- The terrace chairs were chosen to match the color of the shutters, creating a beautiful contrast to the white façade.
- Reading books in the hanging chair under the tree or pondering which of the dream beaches in the area to visit the next day.
- The hillside location, which offers a beautiful view of the valley and the hills.
