Der Tannerhof

In the lush, green surroundings of the spa town Bayrischzell in the Tegernsee Schliersee Alpine region lies an idyllic place of peace and relaxation: the Tannerhof. Behind this simple name lies an entire village, so to speak—a collection of several buildings with a total of 60 rooms. All of them offer an incredible view of the Wendelstein and the Leizach Valley. Until its renovation in 2011, the Tannerhof was a clinic specializing in natural healing methods. Today, the spacious estate is a mixture of old, typical Upper Bavarian buildings, such as the farmhouse, and modern architecture, such as the four towers clad in wooden shingles. Not to be missed are mountain cabins built in 1905, as well as hermit cottages and an orangery. The Badeharpfe, a bathing and sauna house with outdoor swimming pool is located in the countryside above Bayrischzell. Burgi von Mengershausen and her husband Roger Brandes are the fourth generation to run the Tannerhof as a doctor-led family business and have turned it into a real “feel-good hideaway in the mountains” that many of their guests visit several times a year. Here, health encompasses not only nutrition, but also activities such as yoga, Pilates, and even folk dancing! All things that delight the soul! Art is also part of it: art courses, changing exhibitions in the Galerie im Treppenhaus (gallery in the stairwell), and the photography of Christopher Thomas. The word “resort” is part of the name of the Tannerhof health resort – as in re-sorting. In this beautiful hideaway in the mountains, spiritual, physical, and mental resorting are combined in a professional yet very familiar and loving way, supported by the healing power of nature and the fantastic mountain air.

WHAT WE LIKE MOST:

  • The Tannerhof is unconventional and very relaxed. The motto here is: Come as you are!
  • Its own small organic farm with sheep, geese, and cows.
  • The great view of Wendelstein and Leizachtal.
  • There is a perfect symbiosis of old stock and bold, fresh design: authentic rural tradition meets cubist cool. Everything is friendly and free of kitsch.
  • The spacious rooms, which feature lots of light wood.
  • Enjoying the silence on the yoga and sun deck in the middle of the forest.
  • The natural shower with water from the mountain stream.
  • The Badeharpfe, an airy wooden barn—traditionally used for drying hay or grain—with a sauna, relaxation room, and two fitness rooms.
  • You can take a break together, even if only one person wants to fast – your fellow travelers can still enjoy good food!
  • Everyone who is fasting or on the “Schlanke Tanne” diet eats together. It definitely lifts the mood!
  • Guests from outside the area also get their money's worth at the Pool restaurant.
  • Art also has its place here, with changing exhibitions to admire.
  • Bavarian celebrity Gerhard Polt has also been here to lose a few pounds, and has added written comments to Christopher Thomas' wonderful photographs!
  • There are also moderated concerts of various styles.

GOOD TO KNOW:

  • You can choose between three mountain cabins, four towers, and 34 single and double rooms.
  • Therapeutic fasting according to the Buchinger technique has been practiced here for over 60 years, but today's catering concept is three-pronged: In addition to soups and juices, you can also choose the low-carbohydrate “Schlanke Tanne” diet – or a completely normal evening menu with fish and meat.
  • Buchinger fasting has been practiced here for over 60 years, but the catering concept is nowadays three-pronged: in addition to soups and juices, you can also choose the low-carbohydrate diet "Slim Fir" - or a completely "normal" evening menu with fish and meat.
  • All meals are freshly prepared by the chefs using regional and organic ingredients.
  • There is a free weekly program with a wide range of exercise and relaxation activities.
  • Live concerts are held regularly on the courtyard stage in the hall.
  • The small wellness village has a total of 3 saunas, 2 pools (indoor and outdoor), and 2 gyms, lovingly integrated into the historic ensemble and spread across several buildings.
  • Burgi gives weekly lectures on nutrition and health; Burgi's aunt, a painter and art therapist, offers art courses in her studio cottage.
  • In addition to beauty and wellness treatments, therapeutic treatments are also available.
  • Mental cleansing is the magic word, along with fasting: that's why televisions have been banned from the living rooms and there is no Wi-Fi in the towers.
  • If desired, guests can visit the communal TV room, sit in the reading room, or use the record player in the fireplace room.
  • The landscape is also perfect for relaxing and recharging your batteries: hiking, cycling, admiring the mountains – all in the purest mountain air.
  • Schliersee and Tegernsee are just around the corner: swimming, splashing around, SUP riding, sunbathing...
  • The health resort is only an hour-and-twenty-minute's drive from Munich’s airport.
