Hof Greut

Nestled in the hilly Alpine foothills between the mountains and Lake Constance, we have discovered a place where the hustle and bustle of everyday life seems as far away as the moon. On sunny days, you can lie in a deckchair and listen to the buzzing of bees and twittering of birds. When it’s cooler, you remember how wonderfully autumn leaves rustle or snow crunches under your feet. Welcome to Hof Greut in Altusried in the Oberallgäu, home to the Cramer family and their three children, who offer one vacation apartment in the former farmhouse (and are currently preparing another one for guests). Located on the sunny side of the farm, it is aptly named the “Sonnenschopf” (sunny shed). With lots of wood, designer furniture, vintage pieces, and cozy lighting, the apartment exudes the warmth and comfort of a mountain chalet. And all around is nothing but wide-open spaces—the best antidote for the hectic, work-a-day world. Here, you can spend your days discovering the landscape of the Alpine foothills with its mountain panoramas and clear lakes, either by mountain bike or on foot. Or in the winter you can hit the slopes, and look forward to returning to a cozy dinner of Kässpatzen and Kaiserschmarrn – and to an extraordinary evening delight. What might that be, you ask? Just a few steps away from the farm's garden, in the middle of a wild flower meadow, stands a wood-fired hot tub. What could be better than sinking in and soaking up the joy under a star-strewn sky?

WHAT WE LIKE MOST:

  • The beautiful old farmhouse with its wooden shingles and window frames, surrounded by tall trees and wide meadows.
  • The light wood-paneled lounge area in the vacation apartment: here you will find platforms of various heights, laid out with cushions and pillows in muted colors, some with a view of the lush green garden.
  • The subtle décor of dried flowers, ceramics, and selected pieces of art.
  • The contrast between muted earth tones and single walls painted in intense colors such as moss green or petrol blue.
  • The fact that it is as comfortable here as in a hotel (with bathrobes, slippers, and natural care products from Saint Charles) and yet you can still enjoy your holidays in complete privacy and undisturbed.
  • The modern, stylish bathroom with freestanding bathtub and rain shower.
  • The innovative drip coffee bags from the Allgäu gourmet roastery Henning Böhm, which are available in the apartment.
  • The spacious garden with loungers and seating, offering a view of the open fields – wonderful for daydreaming!
  • Breakfast on the terrace above the garden on a warm morning – with birdsong in your ears and fresh regional products on your plate.
  • If you want a more intense relaxation experience, book a gentle yoga session with trainer Susanne or treat yourself to a Lomi Lomi or hot stone massage with masseuse Stefanie (even in the flower meadow if you wish).
  • The snack corner! For a quick nosh during the day, guests can grab small delicacies, quick-cook products, and drinks in a self-service shop.
  • From Lake Constance to the lakes of the Alpine foothills or the mountain lakes – the Allgäu offers many opportunities to get wet (or go boating). And when temperatures drop, head to the thermal baths!

GOOD TO KNOW:

  • The “Sonnenschopf” apartment has 65m², is located on the mezzanine floor of the house, and can accommodate 5 people. There is a double bed in the bedroom, and the lounge area offers three additional sleeping options. It has a large living area with an open, fully equipped kitchen.
  • On cool days, the floor heating makes it nice and cozy.
  • If you want to use the hot tub, you can book it as an extra; you can take a dip in the warm water here at any time of year.
  • If you like, you can order a breakfast basket for €15 per person, which will be delivered to the door of the apartment on the days of your choice, well-stocked with high-quality products, most of which come from the region.
  • Children are very welcome on the farm! Both accommodation – provided no extra bed is required – and breakfast are free for children under five.
  • The second accommodation, called “Wiesengrund,” is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2025. It is located on the garden level of the house and will accommodate three people, making the location ideal for a vacation with family and friends.
  • Whether you want to explore the white splendor in winter on snowshoes, cross-country skis, or alpine skis, there is something for every level here. A slope that is ideal for children, with a ski school, is only 20 minutes away.
  • The mountains offer the perfect challenge for road cyclists, e-bikers, and mountain bikers; the golf course, 10 minutes away, boasts the highest tee in Germany; adventurers can take to the skies with hang gliding or paragliding.
  • Beautiful destinations are also not far away: in addition to Neuschwanstein Castle, a detour to Füssen, Kempten, or Lind is also worthwhile.
