Ovina's Haus

If you ever manage to get your hands on an old black-and-white picture of Sand in Taufers in South Tyrol, you’ll see a rustic coffee house on the spot now occupied by modern vacation accommodation. The lush greenery around it has remained, as have the striking glaciers in the background—Café Wiesenhof, however, no longer exists. It gradually fell into disrepair and in the end could not be saved. In 2021, Ovina’s Haus opened its doors in the same spot, its architecture reminiscent of a hay barn. With large windows, dark wood and balconies on all sides, it fits naturally into the surroundings of the Tauferer Ahrntal. Even the name tells a story: It’s based on the Latin name of a type of grass that’s typical of the area and at the same time an amalgamation of the names Olivia and Fiona, owner Esther’s twins. This says a lot about the philosophy of the business; here tradition of place is valued as much as nature, but there’s also a modern twist. You can enjoy, relax and sleep in suites and lofts which are beautiful in their simplicity. Design your own vacation is the motto, but that doesn’t mean you ever feel neglected. There’s always someone around—usually Elfi, your welcoming host, to serve the first cappuccino of the day, fill breakfast baskets, and keep an eye on the honesty bar to make sure it’s always well stocked. This is a great place to spend a vacation with friends—whizzing down the slopes during the day, climbing the Ahrntal mountains or losing track of time on remote alpine pastures. In the evening, you can try your hand at making cheese dumplings and the traditional Schlutzkrapfen, a kind of ravioli, in Ovina’s kitchen which is available for cooking together, as well as the library for trying the meals together and making plans to emigrate to South Tyrol.ckskIt's easy to fill the baskets and keep an eye on the Honesty Bar to make sure it's always well stocked. WHAT WE LIKE MOST:

  • das tolle Frühstück mit regionalen Produkten, im Sommer kommen zusätzlich frische Produkten aus dem eigenen Feld ‘Taufrisch’ auf den Tisch
  • The two mini-lofts each have their own private sauna. In addition, a Finnish sauna in the garden is available for all guests—with essential oils for infusing, sauna towels and a super view of some three-thousand-meter peaks.
  • Staying in one of the lofts brings you close to the heavens. The roof terrace not only has a large couch for lounging on, but also a glass roof with a view straight up to the stars.
  • The great in-house shop with selected delicacies from the area
  • In the book lounge there are coffee table books, novels to browse through, and (in keeping with the coffee house tradition) freshly brewed coffee.
  • You can leave your travel shampoo at home. The local, natural products from Team Dr. Joseph’s Vitalis range are 100% vegan, animal cruelty-free, climate- and plastic-neutral and are pretty hard to beat.lima- and plastic neutral - are hard to top anyway
  • If you feel like yoga, ask for a direct line to Petra. The certified yoga teacher accompanies beginners and advanced students in their practice.
  • Ovina’s participates in the community project “Taufrisch”. For guests, this means that fruit, vegetables and herbs are grown in a field right next to the house. You can take grapes, carrots, zucchini and flowers from there. Carrots, Zucchini and flowersmay be taken from there
  • The varied outdoor program: Here you can climb peaks, swim in crystal-clear mountain lakes, ski, cross-country ski, ice-climb, ice-skate, toboggan, tandem fly—or simply go for a walk and breathe in the wonderful mountain air.een swimming, skiing, cross-country skiing, ice climbing, skating, tobogganing, tandem flying - or simply walking and breathing the wonderful mountain air.
