1477 Reichhalter
The recipe for (vacation) happiness is actually quite simple: Beautiful and inspiring surroundings, interesting people and stories, endless hours of leisure, and absolutely delicious food to boot. At the Design Hotel 1477 Reichhalter, all of these ingredients for happiness can be found in abundance. For over half a millennium, the house has stood in the center of the idyllic apple community of Lana. It has been a mill, bakery, butcher’s shop, sawmill, barn, stable, tavern and coffee house. So many people have come and gone here, so many stories have been told and lived out here every day. After buying the building, which had been empty for a long time, preserving the past of the traditional house was very important to the hotelier family Dissertori, based in Lana. As a result, exposed layers of plaster and wallpaper now adorn the walls, doors and floorboards gently creak in competition with each other, ornate keys turn in old door locks and rooms bear the names of former owners. But modernity has also moved in, along with all its comforts. Open plan bathrooms, a calm color palette, and carefully selected antique and contemporary pieces of furniture carefully blend into a coherent whole. Right down to the newly extended roof, which houses the roof terrace, everything is of the finest and most exquisite quality—and yet appears so simple and authentic. From the outside, the building has been largely preserved, it looks elegant and tremendously inviting, with its bright facade and its pretty pastel-colored doors, shutters and balconies. A café and a first-class restaurant have moved into the first floor. Here, locals and hotel guests share their morning espresso, chat with the warm Dissertori family, or feast on delicacies from the restaurant’s kitchen or in-house patisserie. Talking. Eating. Being together. Just as it has always been.
What we like:
- Surrounded by so much beauty, you can stop and completely forget about day to day life and luxuriate in “having nothing to do”.
- The respectful preservation of the past mixed with contemporary design—the Dissertori family, architect Zeno Bampi and interior designer Christina Biasi-von Berg have created a wonderful, authentic and at the same time very lively design gem.
- The house deliberately calls itself an “inn” and with only eight rooms the atmosphere is very personal and intimate.
- The numerous loving but also cool details taken from different decades, like unplastered walls, wallpaper remnants, Bakelite light switches, retro fittings, an old, tiled stove, Marshall Bluetooth speakers and beautiful lamps
- The central location in the pedestrian zone of Lana with picture book houses, churches and small stores next door and orchards and vineyards around it
- A great setting-off point for excursions and hikes; here you quickly lose your heart to the Merano countryside.
- The photographs of the house by artist Jasmine Deporta
- The newly built roof terrace with a view over the roofs of Lana
GOOD TO KNOW:
- The eight rooms come in different sizes and designs (and all of them are quite wonderful).
- The restaurant won the Monocle World’s Best Restaurant Award 2019 swell as other awards (Falstaff,...)
- Breakfast consisting of lots of organic and regional products is included: Freshly baked brioches and rolls, straight from the oven to the table—almost until noon—heavenly!
- Guests can borrow bicycles free of charge.
- Events such as the “Culinary Aperitif” with DJ or the “RH Tavolota,” a communal barbecue evening on the terrace, take place regularly, inviting locals and guests alike to feast and socialize together.
- There is no TV but there is a nice selection of books and magazines available in the library.
- Susanne Kaufmann care products are available in the rooms.
- There are countless hiking areas in the vicinity, recommended, for example, is the small, natural hiking paradise Vigiljoch above Lana at 1700 meters above sea level. If you prefer to take things more easily, you can take the second oldest cable car, built in 1912 and modernized in 2008, up to the peaks.
- Guests are welcome to use the spa facilities at the neighbouring Hotel Schwarzschmied (which is also family-owned). Yoga classes and guided hikes are offered daily, and guests can also enjoy massages and treatments.
- Arrival by train is possible; the nearest airports are in Bolzano, Innsbruck, Verona, Bergamo and Milan.
- If you like the 1477 Reichhalter, you should also visit one of the Dissertori family's other beautiful houses: Villa Arnica, Parkhotel Mondschein and Hotel Schwarzschmied
